The theme of this year's conference is Journey to the Edge: Sustainability in Turbulent Times. Located at Canada's farthest Eastern point, Newfoundland and Labrador is both Canada's oldest settlement and youngest province with some of the most colourful homes in the World. Newfoundland and Labrador is known for its lively culture; from Kitchen Parties to George Street and some of the most breathtaking ocean views anywhere. The province has also shown its resiliency in facing its share of economic challenges. Newfoundland and Labrador has always lived and relied on its ocean resources—once fish, now petrochemicals. In doing so, it has had to innovatively adapt to the constraints and challenges that come with these ocean resources.
The theme of this year's conference embraces the history of Newfoundland and Labrador's economic resiliency. While definitions may vary, sustainability encompasses the social, economic and environmental factors that create value in organizations. With world economies the focus of attention, maintaining accounting sustainability within organizations may present new challenges and create a need to rethink and redesign how things are done.
The CAAA welcomes papers for the 2016 Annual Conference on all areas of research including financial and management accounting, financial reporting and communication, assurance, tax, accounting history and public sector accounting.
