Message from Sonia B. Dhaliwal, the Chair of the CAAA Education Committee

I am humbled and thrilled to be taking on the position as the Chair of the CAAA Education Committee. The CAAA has been instrumental in pushing forward excellence in accounting research and education, and I am eager to take on new initiatives in achieving this vision. A recent KPMG International report on the future of higher education in a disruptive world so correctly stated that of all the predictions made, the one most-confident is that higher education will move from relative uniformity to great diversity. Having read that I am reminded of the eloquent quote by Malcolm Forbes, “Diversity is the art of thinking independently together”. I believe it is such diversity, which is also the theme for this year’s CAAA conference, that educators and researchers must cultivate, since diverse thinking fosters creativity which leads to innovation. Dear CAAA Colleagues,

Happy 2023 and also welcome to the year of the Rabbit. I hope this new year will bring you all peace and great success in your endeavours. 

Here are some highlights of upcoming CAAA events and opportunities to take note of: 

  • Thanks to everyone who submitted a paper to the CAAA Annual Conference and Qualitative Methods Symposium. We have had a very strong response to the call for papers and the Scientific Committee is underway with the review and selection process.

As always, nothing we do would be possible without the amazing talent and dedication of our wonderful staff, and the incredibly valuable time and wisdom that is contributed by our volunteers on the Board and committees. If you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to contact me, or our President Elect, Samir Trabelsi, with your suggestions on how to make CAAA a valuable part of our community. The Canadian Accounting Hall of Fame (CAHF) recognizes and honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of the Canadian accounting profession or, as Canadians, have made contributions to the development of accounting elsewhere in the world. These contributions may have been in practice (including auditing, financial reporting, management accounting, taxation, corporate governance, and accounting related consultancy), through professional associations, regulatory bodies, or through academic pursuits.

The deadline for nominating a member of the Board of Electors is Thursday, September 30, 2021.

The deadline for nominating an inductee is Friday, November 12, 2021.
